Windows

This is a programm that automatically installs a desired version on paraview on your Windows computer. The programm also automatically checks for updates on new plugins provided by us for the Windows version of paraview.

Requirments

To run the programm successfully you need to install a few additional programms

Installation

Download the git repository Paraview-Windows and place it somewhere on your computer. Execute the paraview.bat script inside the project and follow the instructions on the command shell. The download and installation may take a while depending on your internet connection. Now create a link to the paraview.bat script, you should be able to run paraview.

Macintosh

Requirments

This can be done by opening the Application Terminal and running the command

Mac:~ User$ git --version

Installation

To install the programm for Mac you first need to clone the paraview application from ParaView-Mac preferably using git and move it in the Applicaton folder

Mac:~ User$ git clone --branch Macintosh https://vcgitlab.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de/lmarks/sfb-paraview.git
Mac:~ User$ mv crc-paraview/paraview.app /Applications
Mac:~ User$ rm -R crc-paraview/

To delete the repository, you might need to answer with a 'y' and enter

Now open the program Automator and open the application "paraview". Now export the Shell-Skript using 'export' and save the program under programs with the same name "paraview", replace the existing file.

Install the paraview version downloader by cloning the linux repository

Mac:~ User$ cd /Applications/paraview.app/Contents/
Mac:Contents User$ git clone --branch Linux https://vcgitlab.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de/lmarks/sfb-paraview.git
Mac:Contents User$ mv crc-paraview/* .
Mac:Contents User$ rm -R crc-paraview/
Mac:Contents User$ ./paraview

Read the Terms and Agrees for Paraview, after that a windows pops up with the paraview drive, just close the window, the script will automatically install Paraview at the right position. When the script is finished you should be able to run paraview by executing the Paraview Applicaiton in Applications.

This might take a while as it is the first time Paraview is executed

Linux

This is a programm that automatically installs a desired version on paraview on your linux computer and generates a bash command to run it from terminal. The programm also automatically checks for updates on new plugins provided by us for the linux version of paraview.

Requirments

To use the paraview script you first need to install necessary packages on you linux system, otherwise the script will not run

  • curl
  • gawk
  • GIT

you can install these packages on Ubuntu by using the terminal command

user@computer:~$ sudo apt install curl gawk git -y

Installation

Download the git repository ParaView-Linux by using the command in a designated folder (we recommend to generate a programms folder)

user@computer:~$ mkdir programms
user@computer:~$ cd programms
user@computer:~/programms$ git clone --branch Linux https://vcgitlab.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de/lmarks/sfb-paraview.git

When the git project is downloaded, open the folder and execute the bash script. Follow the instructions to install Paraview on your system. We recommend using the paraview version MPI 5.11.1. This process might take a while to download all the necessary packages depending on your internet connection.

user@computer:~$ cd crc-paraview
user@computer:~/programms/crc-paraview$ ./paraview

After you installed paraview successfully, you should be able to run paraview from anywhere by running the command

user@computer:~$ paraview

Uninstall

If you want another version of paraview you can just duplicate the project and change the command name like mentioned earlier, or uninstall paraview by running the following script. Please note if you want to delete paraview completely, run the uninstall script first before deleting the project folder.

user@computer:~/programms/crc-paraview$ ./uninstall
